MSM - Organic Sulfur as a Universal Healer
Share
MSM, or methylsulfonylmethane, is naturally found in many fresh foods but is lost during processing. Its primary use in the body is for the synthesis of collagen, the formation of new skin, blood vessels, hair, and nails. Its main benefit is maintaining the elasticity of cells, skin, and blood vessels, which is an attribute of youth. This is why organic sulfur is often considered the beauty mineral. It keeps cell walls permeable, allowing nutrients to freely enter cells while waste and toxins can be easily removed.
Amino acid chains are often linked by flexible sulfur bridges. Additionally, the production of oxidative energy in cells requires reactive sulfur compounds. Without sufficient organic sulfur in the form of MSM, cells and body structures lose their elasticity and flexibility. The result is the well-known signs of aging: inelastic skin with increasing wrinkles, scars, hardened arteries, varicose veins, and even hardened lungs, causing emphysema. Sufficient MSM can significantly reverse these conditions, including emphysema. It is believed that the MSM in Aloe Vera is the active ingredient in repairing damaged skin.
MSM is used by athletes to increase endurance and minimize sore muscles. Its use for this purpose is even more widespread among racehorses and greyhounds. This effect may be mainly due to MSM's ability to significantly enhance the body's ability to eliminate metabolic residues, waste, and toxins from cells. Similarly, it appears to help those with chronic fatigue, aiding in recovery from severe physical and mental exhaustion. MSM reduces the effects of stress and the frequency of stress-related deaths in animals. MSM reduces or eliminates allergic reactions to food, chemicals, and inhaled allergens. Additionally, it reduces reactions to mosquito, bee, poisonous spider, and snake bites. It reduces inflammation, pain, stiffness, and swelling caused by arthritis or other musculoskeletal conditions, helping to normalize blood chemistry in these cases. It also reduces inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes. MSM relieves leg and back cramps and muscle spasms, whether after periods of inactivity (night cramps) or during sports activities.
Other conditions that often benefit from MSM supplementation include hot flashes, discomfort due to the menstrual cycle, acne, asthma, back pain, candida, constipation, diabetes, diarrhea, diverticulitis, gastrointestinal ulcers, hypertension, inflammation of any kind, skin itching, migraines, nausea, pain, stress, sunburn, and wound healing. It is also useful for other chronic degenerative or inflammatory conditions, particularly Alzheimer's disease, cancer, Crohn's disease, myasthenia gravis, and Parkinson's disease.
Nails and hair are high in sulfur and generally improve with MSM. Additionally, it reduces parasitic infections in the intestinal and urogenital tracts. MSM normalizes our mental state. People who take MSM tend to report increased alertness, reduced mood swings, and less depression. It improves the immune system and the senses of taste and smell. Furthermore, it neutralizes the toxicity of anticholinesterase, providing protection against insecticide exposure or ingestion. It also helps the liver detoxify.
Oregon Health University has demonstrated, through many years of clinical use, that MSM:
- inhibits pain impulses along nerve fibers (analgesia);
- reduces inflammation;
- increases blood flow;
- reduces muscle spasms;
- favors skin healing.
How to Use MSM MSM is a natural nutritional ingredient with no unpleasant taste or odor. There is evidence that it is completely safe even in very large amounts. Due to its inert composition, it does not cause allergies or side effects. It can even be safely used as a blood thinner. The body will use what it needs and excrete the excess through the kidneys. Water-soluble MSM is easily absorbed and provides a therapeutically important source of organic sulfur.
The daily maintenance intake typically ranges from 1 to 10 grams in two or more divided doses. Heavier individuals may reach the upper limit, while lighter individuals may use around 5 grams. However, try to adjust the dose according to your condition or observed effects. You can use more or less than these amounts. Initially, start with about 1 gram and gradually increase the dose. MSM often causes some beneficial but uncomfortable cleansing reactions, which may lead to headaches, nausea, diarrhea, or weakness for a few days. If you are already on a higher dose when this occurs, simply reduce or stop taking it until these symptoms subside. Cleansing reactions are a normal and necessary part of effective natural healing methods.
If you want to more quickly overcome a specific health problem, you can temporarily experiment with taking more than the usual dose. It is often recommended to take one dose in the morning and another in the evening, but it is preferable to distribute the intake more evenly throughout the day. You can do this by dissolving the daily amount in a glass of fruit juice or herbal tea and sipping it occasionally. The exact amount used each day is not critical.
The benefit of MSM will be enhanced when combined with vitamin C.
